The LSC 1003 course helped me to improve my writing skills throw
the essays and the paragraphs that we had to write, because practicing is the
best way to learn. The skills that this course developed are very important,
because in the near future I’ll have to do researches and lots of writings to
graduate and it will be very helpful if I decided to do masters. These skills
are also important for my future success because as an engineer I’ll have to
compete with other engineers to do our company projects, so if I want to be
successful I need a good writing skills to convince the managers of my project
proposal. In order to improve my writing I need not only to read, and write
more. What I need is to read, write, and think more critically. The most enjoyable
thing that I learned is how to get the references of my resources, because
before taking this course I used to think that this it’s a very hard thing to
do, but after taking this course I realized how easy to do so.

Essay draft#2
Material process
Introduction
The
story of stuff explains about the diversity and environment in
5 steps. We learned the countries depend on the economy and
consumption of the individual and the community, but there the company
has superior power than government so they have authority on the economy. But the environment is exposed
to side effects which put them
in a grave danger
after using resources and increasing the proportion
of pollution.
Extraction
The first step is called extraction. Resources exploitation is
important for us to survive, but nowadays the natural resources are being over
used. That increase in the natural resources exploitation is threating the
humans live in the long run. According to the video one third of the planet has
been extracted in the past three decade. There are many reasons that make the
resources under pressure. Some of those reasons
are the incredible increase in technologies that could be used for extraction
the materials, For example in the past if someone tried to cut a tree by using
saw that would take minutes and some cases hours, but now with the new machines
cutting a tree would only take few seconds. The second possible reason is the
high increasing ratio in population.
Production
The second part of the stuff story is the production. According to
the American Heritage Dictionary production is “The creation of value or wealth
by producing goods and services“. In this phase the resources that have been
extracted is turned to new stuff by using chemicals, machines and lots of
energy so they can use these new stuff in producing more complex materials such
as mobile phones, cars and furniture. During the production many toxic
chemicals are used and produced, so that toxic chemicals are included in some
of the stuff that we have in work and home even in air that we breathe. In fact
if that is the case that means we are been effected by those toxics all the
time.
Distribution
The third step is Distribution. Distribution
is defined by the process of marketing and supplying produced materials.
Distribution is the phase of movement where all goods move from the production
source to the markets and then to the customers. It also referred to the
movement of payment from the customer to the market to the source of the
productions. This phase happen throw channels they are called the distribution
channels. They are sets of interdependent organizations involved in making the
product available for consumption. Those interdependent organizations work as a
third party to supply the goods to the customers.
Consumption
The fourth step is consumption. Consumption
is one of the major concepts in economics. It is the process where the goods
are being used up or transferred to something new. The consumption of goods is
the amount of them that has been used during a time period. So consumption is
when the customer uses the goods and services that have an exchangeable value
which was distributed by the Production source to the markets.
Disposal
The fifth step is disposal. Disposal is
the final phase of the stuff story that happens after the good has been
consumed by the costumers. After disposal the waste that is lifted either being
dropped or burned which cause pollution in air, water and land. Which cause
health problems as well as it’s a major cause of the global warming that
threats the life as we know it. Because of the toxic chemicals that were
included in manufacturing these materials, when it’s burned it may produce some
toxic gasses that is moved to the air then to our lungs."The average
American discards 4.43 pounds of garbage everyday (EPA Facts and
Figures)".
Consumption in the UAE
Furthermore, here in the UAE people have
high standards of living and so they tend to spend a lot of money without
having second thoughts about the outcome which leads to negative consequences
to our planet, for example, people here have more than one car and its most
likely to be a big SUV truck which isn’t fuel efficient and also wasting energy
sources like keeping the light turned on in the house in rooms that are not
being used. Another example is buying a lot of products that don’t get used
properly like buying a new phone every time new phone is being sold out. These
factors harm our economy although we don’t get affected by it instantly in the
UAE but it will hit us hard, all these natural resources are being used until
it's all depleted, then we will only feel sorry.
Conclusion
Ultimately, from the information I
gathered from the video 'story of stuff' and other sources from the internet I
conclude that we the people living on this planet must take care of this planet
because it’s the only one we have. Energy sources are starting to finish and
more and more waste is being produced everyday around the world that the earth
will not be able to take care of itself from all these toxic materials
produced. Businesses only care about the profits and not always about the
consequences of destroying nature, governments are trying to limit this but we
still see negative effects from us on earth.

Essay draft #1 Hybirdcars
Essay draft #1
Hybirdcars
My topic is about the hybrid cars.
That means the cars that works with the renewable energy along with the normal engine,
so that means it’s moved by two or more distinct power sources. Usually
electricity is used so the refer to it as a hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs),
which is combined of an internal combustion engine with one or more electric
motors. There are many sources that can be used in the hybrid car such as
Electricity, Electromagnetic fields, Radio waves, Compressed or liquefied natural gas, Human powered e.g. pedaling or rowing, Hydrogen, Solar and wind. The first plan of making a hybrid car was between
1665 and 1680 by Flemish Jesuit and astronomer
Ferdinand when they created plans for a miniature four-wheel unmanned In making a
train without a driver on the orders of the Chinese Emperor, when he was under his command. The first hybrid was built by Frenchman Nicholas in
1769 when he built a steam-powered motor that was able to go 6 miles per hour.
In 1825 the British inventor Goldsworthy Gurney was able to build a steam car
that successfully completed 85 miles in ten hours.
In
the early stage the steam power motors dominated until late 19th
century. The first electrical
car was built by Robert Anderson in Scotland. “In 1898 Dr. Frednadz Porsche
making the first
in the world
which was electrically
operated wheelchairs property,
and then making
a hybrid car
which had been working internal combustione” ( Hybrid / Electric Vehicle Statistics |
Statistic Brain, 2013).
His second car was a hybrid, using an internal combustion engine to spin a
generator that provided power to electric motors. It was able to cross about 40
miles using the battery alone. In 1990 the American car companies made, 1575
electric, 1681 steam and 936 gasoline cars
(Hybrid vehicle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, 2008). There many reason to develop the hybrid cars but the
most important one is that the hybrid cars are green and electricity doesn’t
coast as the petrol coast.
Now a day’s many
developments are being made for the hybrid cars. And most of the motors
companies are competing in who is going to make the best hybrid car in the
world which is really a very important for everyone on the planet. As the
environmental problems increase new tech that’s environmental friendly and as
the numbers of cars in the world increase their threat to the environment
increase if we keep on using petrol. So at some point in the future the hole
world will have to use hybrid cars is the still want to survive. Because as we
all know that the smoke coming for our cars affect the global warming which in
turn increase the heat and melt the ice on the planet.
In conclusion I want
to say that the hybrid cars are very important and interesting thing that we
all need to care about specially us in the UAE, and in the GCC in general
because we don’t like to use public transportation and everyone wants to have
his own car. As about 4,500,000
hybrid car have been sold in the world I think the
people starts to realize how important it is, as I hope that number increase in
the future, Chandran, Kailas. "Hybrid Car." (Web.

Houbara bustards
In North African the birds are endangered. There was a dramatic increase of birds in 1995 as the author said “ Between opening in 1995 and last year, the Emirates Center for Wildlife Propagation has produced more than 60,000 of the birds” The Abu Dhabi government created program protect Hobart. The Centre in Morocco has plans to increase production from 12000 to 15000 per season. Train hubris to be familiar with humans.Hunting season in autumn, can’t release the birds. One year after release 65 per cent of the birds survive, “the success of the program can be measured thought their density in the wild. All number increased, so the program is working.

Reflection
I didn’t enjoy the course as much as I expected, but It was
very helpful to me since I was graduated from a public high school that didn’t focus
in the English language as the other subjects. And as a student in the HCT I need
to have a very strong English language. That’s why I think this course is one of
the most important courses. During this course I learned many things, but the
most important things to me are that I became able to summarize articles and do
referencing. The most enjoyable and easiest part of the course was getting the
references and the hardest part which wasn’t so hard is all the writing that we
had to do. The lessons were very helpful to me because they helped me to
improve my writing skills. I think that I’ll have to use everything that I
learned during this course in the future and not only during my study time in
the HTC, but also after I graduate and become an employer. If I was teaching
this course, I would give the students more writing to do. It’s not going to be
fun, but during this course I figured out that this is the best way to improve
someone’s writing. I would love to take such courses in the future. In fact, I heard
my friends that study at the Petroleum Institute once talking about a critical
writing course that they have there. I would love to have such course here in
the HCT.

There is a
splendid future for the robot in the world. The capital of UAE Abu Dhabi will pilot
the robot in an exhibition this year to guide the visitors to this technology
and show him the possibilities of robots. PAL company has spent more than Dh189.6m
in 3 year to develop the robot because they think the robot can do many jobs. Experts
believe in 2016 as much as 85% of global robot sales will come from service
robots, but there is still time before robots enter most homes. The robot is
expensive so maybe it will take 10 years to be popular.
